As many as 27% of South Africa’s young children are said to be stunted because of under nutrition. Now with the country celebrating National Nutrition Week from the 9th to the 15th of October, the spotlight has been thrust on the growing triple burden of malnutrition facing vulnerable households, especially given rising food insecurity in the wake pandemic. The triple burden of malnutrition refers to the three concurrent threats of under nutrition, over nutrition or obesity, and hidden hunger.
