Potato production in a changing climate IV.
Regions where current planting dates will remain optimal in future*
Excerpt from the final report “Impact of different climate change scenarios on future potato
production in South Africa: study II” by J M Steyn (http://www.potatoes.co.za)
During 2014 three articles were published in CHIPS
as to how climate change is expected to affect future
potato production in Limpopo (May/June), Sandveld
(July/August) and Eastern Free State (September/
October). In this follow-up series of three articles,
regions with similar adaptation possibilities to future
temperature conditions are grouped together. This first
article will discuss the adaptation possibilities of the
Eastern Cape, Southern Cape, North-Eastern Cape
and KwaZulu-Natal production regions.
