Limpopo cultivar trial under irrigation at Tom Burke in 2020

The summers are very warm, while the winters are cold with black frost often occurring in June and July. One of the reasons why this region is able to make such a large contribution to the industry, is because there are two production seasons in the region.

This includes an early cultivation period from January to March and harvesting from May to August, as well as the main cultivation period that takes place from April to September with harvesting between September and April. The trial site comprises a sandy loam soil and is planted according to a complete randomised block design with three replicates per cultivar.
